Bridging Task
For our media studies bridging task we were asked to analyse three contemporary films in order to see how young people are being presented. I analysed a scene from each of the following films:
.The Inbetweeners Movie
.Wild Child
.Angus Thongs and Perfect Snogging
Firstly I analysed a scene from the inbetweeners movie (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihd5fZbTMn4). This scene involved Jay being shown up by a young child to which he gets really frustrated with being shown up by him. The scene started with the small child recognising the football logo on Jays shorts and ended with the small boy pulling down Jays shorts and Jay then threw the small boy in the pool. Some of the shots used were looking down on the small boy which may show that he is inferior to the older boys and they perhaps look down on him, as the camera angle seems to be from their perspective. Jay is wearing football shorts which shows like many stereotypical teenagers that he is a fan of football so perhaps it is trying to show that he is just a typical teenage boy. Also in the scene Neil, who is present with jay has an orange face from which he accidently fake tanned which may show that teenage boys are irresponsible in a way.
Secondly I analysed a scene from wild child (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HGnAtoPebc). Despite the fact that Poppy Moore the main characted in the film wild child is American this film is actually British. This scene involved Poppy Moore arriving at her new boarding school after being troublesome whilst over in America, so is sent to this British boarding school. In this scene Poppy is arrogant and doesn't listen to the head girl Harriet. This dialect could show that she feels people should treat her how she was treated in America and when she is not treated this way she feels almost outraged herself. Harriet in the scene also seems shocked about being treated with disrespect by Poppy. Poppy's uniform is a lot more racy than the others' which sets her apart from them instantly showing us shes different and more willing to break the rules.
The last scene I analysed was one from angus thongs and perfect snogging (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IZCuGEJ6h0). In this scene Georgia is learning how to kiss from a boy called Peter Dyer, the scene in its self is all very awkward which can show that the teenage life is also a very awkward period. The music playing in the background is a multitude of love songs intended to set the mood for the scene but just adds up to make it that bit more awkward. The location of the scene takes place in Peters bedroom which shows he has more control of the situation which is abundant from the scene when he is a lot more experienced than Georgia is. The camera continually shoots in and out of the faces so there will be long shots and close ups which could show that teenagers are open to scrutiny and are viewed by all people.
